More than 200 students from six schools will join jobseekers and career changers at a jobs expo in George Town on Wednesday.
The event brings together local employers, training providers and support services under one roof.
It is aimed at jobseekers, school leavers, people thinking about a career change and anyone wanting to know more about local industries.
Bell Bay Advanced Manufacturing Zone chief executive Susie Bower said the expo was a chance to put people face to face with the businesses that are hiring.
“George Town and the wider Northern Tasmania region have a diverse range of employment opportunities and it is important that local people can see what is available and have direct conversations with the businesses looking for workers,” Bower said.
“This expo is about making those connections easier.”
“t gives people the chance to meet employers, learn about different industries, explore training pathways and ask the practical questions that can help them take their next step.”
Bower said getting more people into work and building career paths close to home was key to the region’s future.
“We want young people and local residents to be able to build meaningful careers close to home,” he said.
“By bringing employers, training organisations and employment services together in one place, we can help create clearer pathways into jobs and give businesses access to the people they need.”
The Jobs Expo is also a chance for employers to showcase the variety of work available across the region.
Skills and Jobs Minister Felix Ellis will open the expo at 10am.
George Town mayor Greg Kieser, West Tamar mayor Christina Holmdahl and Bass MP Janie Finlay will also attend.
It is run by NEBHub, an initiative of BBAMZ funded by the state government through Jobs Tasmania.
The George Town Futures Expo 2026 will be held on Wednesday, September 30 at the George Town Memorial Hall on Macquarie Street.
It runs from 10am to 2.30pm.
