A woman was more than five times over the legal alcohol limit when she drove on the wrong side of the road, with no headlights and on a wheel rim, police allege.
Police say the 49-year-old also hit another car in Devonport and drove off. They were called about 8:45pm on Friday.
The driver of the car she allegedly hit called police, who found her a short time later.
She returned a breath test reading of 0.276, police say.
She has been charged with drink driving and failing to meet a driver’s duties after a crash.
She has also been banned from driving for two years and will appear in court at a later date.
Inspector Steve Jones said drink driving put everyone on the road at risk.
“It is a completely reckless decision that can have devastating consequences,” he said.
Police also caught two young men speeding in the north-west on Friday.
An 18-year-old provisional driver from Ulverstone was allegedly clocked at 130km/h on the Bass Highway at Lillico.
He will be fined $639 and lose his licence for three months.
A 23-year-old Moriarty man was allegedly caught doing 93km/h in a 50km/h zone at Forth.
He will be fined $905 and faces a three-month driving ban.
Sergeant Nigel Sheehan said speeding “dramatically increases the risk of death and serious injuries to road users”.
