A wave of vehicle burglaries across Launceston in recent months has led to charges against six individuals.
Over four separate incidents, 46 cars were broken into and property stolen.
Detective Sergeant Darren Turner said some offenders resorting to forced entry while others took advantage of those left unlocked.
“Small valuable items were stolen from many of the cars, with some of these items now recovered,” he said.
A 20-year-old man from George Town faces eight charges of burglary and stealing for incidents in Kings Meadows, Norwood and West Launceston.
A 24-year-old Launceston man has been charged with 19 counts of burglary and 17 counts of stealing for burglaries in hotel car parks in the Launceston CBD between August and September.
A young person from Launceston is facing charges for four burglaries, two attempted burglaries and two stealing offences in South Launceston and West Launceston earlier this month.
Three other young people have been charged with eight counts of burglary and stealing for incidents involving unlocked cars in Newnham last week.
“Police would like to remind members of the public to remove valuable from unattended cars where possible and always ensure cars are left locked and secure,” Turner said.
He encouraged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behaviour to police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
