Police have charged a St Helens man with a string of burglaries after recovering more than $100,000 worth of allegedly stolen property on Tasmania’s east coast.
The 42-year-old was charged with aggravated burglary, stealing and unlawful possession of stolen property following targeted searches in St Helens last week.
Officers seized more than 200 items they allege were stolen from homes and garages over the past few weeks.
The break-ins happened across St Helens, Scamander, Binalong Bay and The Gardens.
The recovered items included power tools, fishing equipment, paintings, digital cameras, antique items and an aluminium dinghy on a trailer.
Police have matched most of the property to its owners, but some items are yet to be claimed.
“Property owners in the area are urged to check their premises for signs of break in attempts, especially if they have not been home recently,” a spokesperson said.
“Anyone with information, particularly CCTV footage of suspicious activity, should contact police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers Tasmania on 1800 333 000 or at crimestopperstas.com.au.”
The man was bailed to appear in court on July 2.
