Police have arrested a man after a search of the north-west coast following an incident in Somerset this afternoon.

At around 2pm on Monday, a gold Holden Commodore sedan was involved in what police described as a “dangerous driving incident”.

Witnesses say the driver avoided road spikes laid by police on the Cam River bridge, did a u-turn and drove away.

The male driver then “dumped the vehicle” and fled on foot in the area between Lyons Street and Raglan Street.

Officers spent around an hour searching for the suspect, who was described as being between 30 to 40-years-old.

Police said he has a medium build, short dark hair and was last seen wearing dark clothing and white sunglasses.

“Police have seized the Commodore and the man is assisting police with their enquiries.”

“Anyone who observed or has video footage of the Commodore driving dangerously in the Wynyard or Somerset areas between 1pm and 2pm today is asked to contact Western CIB on 131444 and quote incident number 227-15042024.”
