Pop icon Katy Perry throws support behind future Tasmania Devils AFL team

Global pop sensation Katy Perry has thrown her support behind the new Tasmania Devils AFL team ahead of her performance at this weekend’s Grand Final.

Perry, who will take to the stage at the MCG on Saturday to entertain the 100,000-strong crowd, made the announcement during an interview with AFL.com.au on Thursday.

“I’m barracking for the new Tasmanian team that’s coming in next year … I’m calling it now,” she said.

“Aussie, Aussie, Aussie. Tassie, Tassie, Tassie.”

“The Devils they are.”

The Tasmania Devils are scheduled to join the AFL in 2028, becoming the league’s 19th team.

Perry’s appearance at the Grand Final will mark her return to the stadium for the first time since the 2020 Women’s Cricket World Cup final.

She will perform a medley of her biggest hits, including ‘I Kissed a Girl’, alongside an Australian artist, rumoured to be Tina Arena.

The singer is reportedly being paid $5 million for the five-song performance, equating to $1 million per song.
