Labor will move a no-confidence motion against Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff when parliament resumes next week.
Leader of Opposition Business in the House of Assembly Dean Winter says, come Tuesday, the “Premier that is presiding over one of the most unstable governments in living memory” will be ‘put to the test’.
“This level of uncertainty in the Premier’s leadership is too great to just sweep under the carpet – confidence of the house needs to be tested and Labor will make sure it is when parliament resumes,” Winter said.
Premier Rockliff will need the support of former Liberal turned independent members John Tucker and Lara Alexander to hang on to his leadership position, with the outcome possibly determined by a single MP’s vote.

With nine votes in favor of the Liberals and eight for Labor, the balance could shift in favor of Labor if the Greens and independent Kristie Johnston lend their support.
The government has condemned Labor’s plan, saying they should focus on improving the lives of Tasmanians instead of playing political games.
