After four weeks of closure, Hobart’s Proctors Road has reopened today after $850,000 of major roadworks.
The project, which started on January 3, involved realignment, road base improvements, improved drainage, guard rail renewal, bank stabilisation, installation of a rock barrier and resurfacing of the road from above Baintree Avenue to the Southern Outlet turn-off.
The City of Hobart say the works were an essential move to ensure the safety of the road users and to prevent any further accidents.
The project addressed the considerable safety risks of the busy road, which is a popular alternative for city commuters and traffic from Mt Nelson and Tolmans Hill.

The roadworks included the installation of a rockfall fence to prevent large rocks from falling onto the road, line marking on the outside edge of the road, improvements to the barrier fence and major improvements to the road surface to create a safer drive by fixing surface defects.
The project was completed on schedule and the road has now been reopened to the public, with all necessary safety measures in place.
