Qantas will restart direct flights between Perth and Hobart from late September, ending a two-year hiatus from a route currently dominated by Virgin Australia.
Operated by the airline’s regional arm, QantasLink, the new service will run three times a week using 150-seat Airbus A319 aircraft.
The airline says it will add more than 32,000 seats a year to the Perth–Hobart corridor.
Flights will take off on Mondays, Fridays and Sundays from September 26.

However, services won’t operate year-round. QantasLink will pause the route during Tasmania’s winter months of May, June and August each year.
“We’re really proud to continue our support for Western Australia’s resource and tourism sectors, with our newest QantasLink routes linking Perth to Hobart once more,” QantasLink CEO Rachel Yangoyan said.

“[It] will not only boost inbound visitors to WA but offer more opportunities for those working in the resource sectors across the country with improved options for their travel.”
Virgin Australia currently flies the same route on the same Monday, Friday and Sunday schedule.
QantasLink previously flew direct between the Tasmanian and WA capitals but pulled out in 2023.
Launch fares with Qantas start from $299 one-way, with first-day prices around $429. Virgin’s fares typically range from $329 up to more than $900 one-way.
