His quad bike crashed down a 15-metre embankment in what proved to be a challenging rescue operation.

“It was a steep incline and rescue crews rigged equipment off a vehicle to reach him,” Tasmania Police said in a statement on Saturday morning.

Savage River Mine Rescue teams assisted emergency services in the complex operation to reach the injured rider.

After more than two hours of work, the man was safely retrieved at around 11:30pm.

“He was treated for non life-threatening injuries,” police said.

Police said the cause of the crash is under investigation.
