A 64-year-old Hobart woman has been disqualified from driving for a period of 12 months after being detected driving with four times the legal blood alcohol limit.
Police received reports of a vehicle driving in a dangerous manner on the Brooker Highway in Glenorchy around 1 PM.
Upon intercepting the woman, it was discovered that she had crashed her vehicle into two other vehicles, including one whose driver had stopped to help on Continental Road.
The woman was taken to the Glenorchy police station where she underwent a breath analysis, returning a result of 0.219 – more than four times the legal limit. She was immediately disqualified from driving and charged, with bail set for a court appearance at a later date.
Acting Sergeant Kristy Eyles expressed her disappointment at the continued instances of drink driving.
“It is extremely disappointing that despite the continued efforts of Tasmania Police to keep our roads safe during this festive season, some members of the public continue to place others in significant danger by drink driving,” she explained.
Police will continue to be out in force targeting drunk and drug drivers to help keep everyone safe this festive season.
