Reports of motorists running yellow and red lights at a Sandy Bay intersection prompted a police operation that caught 14 drivers in just over an hour, Tasmania Police say.
Southern road policing officers set up at the intersection of Sandy Bay Road and Russell Crescent on Thursday following complaints from the public.
Police said nine drivers were caught failing to stop at a yellow light when it was safe to do so.
One driver went through a red light, two entered blocked intersections and two were caught using a mobile phone while driving.
“Drivers are reminded that a yellow traffic light means you must stop if it is safe to do so,” police said.
Motorists were also urged to obey traffic signals and make sure an intersection is clear before entering.
“Taking unnecessary risks at intersections can have serious consequences,” police said.
