Authorities are working to get multiple stranded dolphins back into the ocean after they became stuck on a remote beach in north-west Tasmania.
Six short-beaked common dolphins were found stranded at Hawley Beach, east of Devonport, around 9:30am on Tuesday.
A spokesperson for the Department of Natural Resources and Environment said the dolphins were reported to the Marine Conservation Program hotline by a member of the public.
“The animals are all stable and are being protected from the environment,” the spokesperson told Pulse.

“Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service staff who are assisting in the response are waiting for an incoming tide to be able to facilitate a release at high tide.”
“The cause of the stranding is unknown and may not be able to be determined.”

Members of the public are asked to stay away from the area.
High tide will return to the area this evening at 5:33pm, following low tide earlier today at 11:32am.
Updated 4pm, Tuesday August 13: The Department of Natural Resources and Environment said the dolphins have now been successfully returned to sea.
