The incident, which reportedly involves multiple vehicles including at least one motorcycle, has caused major disruptions during peak travel time.
“At this stage no injuries have been reported,” a police spokesperson said.
The effects are being felt widely across the city, with traffic backed up across the Tasman Bridge and extending down Macquarie Street into Hobart’s CBD.
“Motorists are asked to avoid the area until the scene is cleared,” police said.
