A rescue operation is underway this evening to save four international tourists stranded in “extreme” weather at Cradle Mountain.
Emergency services launched the rescue mission after receiving an alert around 3:30pm today from another walking party who discovered the group suffering from exposure to the cold.
Weather conditions are preventing authorities from deploying the rescue helicopter to reach the distressed hikers.
Instead, a ground team comprising of Tasmania Police Search and Rescue personnel, State Emergency Service volunteers, Parks and Wildlife Service staff and Ambulance Tasmania paramedics are trekking through difficult terrain to locate the stranded walkers.

The rescue crews are battling against harsh weather as they attempt to reach the tourists.
Police say a further update will be provided on Saturday.
