Patients at the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre in Oatlands have moved into their new and improved accommodation following the completion of a new residential care wing.
The new wing brings the total number of healthcare beds at the centre to 30 and includes eight bedrooms, each with modern ensuites equipped with various enabling devices, a nurse’s station, storage and a staff tearoom.
Health Minister Guy Barnett said the upgrades will provide locals with access to high-quality care closer to home.
“This means increased care capacity, improved patient safety, comfort and better working conditions for staff,” he said.
“This project is part of the Tasmanian Government’s commitment to investing in upgraded health infrastructure, helping to meet future demands for health services and the delivery of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.”
Construction on the new wing began in February 2023 and was finished ahead of schedule and within budget in September.
Local construction group Macquarie Builders, which is also delivering the new Oatlands Ambulance Station, completed the work.
Development of Stage 2, which includes the complete refurbishment of the Callington Wing, will now begin.
This stage will provide the Midlands Multi-Purpose Health Centre an additional eight-bed capacity, along with modernised and upgraded facilities.
