A beloved retro cinema in New Town has had ‘everything’ stolen from them after a devastating break-in.
Rewind Cinema saw thieves steal over $9,500 worth of technology, memorabilia, food and alcohol after entering through an ajar window and avoiding the security alarm sensors.
Owner Graziano Di Martino said he was was most upset about the loss of memorabilia and custom items made for the cinema by loyal fans.
“This one hurt the most,” Di Martino said.
“When someone comes into your business and takes everything, it’s gutting and it makes you think, I’m done.”
Tills with cash, POS iPads, a camera and projector were also stolen from the business – which was uninsured at the time of the theft.
The community has rallied, donating items and cash to help keep the cinema running.
Di Martino called the response from the community “insanely incredible”.
“It’s pretty mind-blowing and it’s just reaffirming of what a space rewind is and how much it is a part of the community.”
Friends of the cinema have already donated a projector and iPad and Di Martino is determined to continue providing fun times for the Rewind community.
“Onwards and upwards for Rewind,” he said.
