Celebrity chef Rick Stein has made a surprise visit to a Hobart restaurant, delighting staff who got the chance to cook for one of the world’s most recognised food personalities.
Urban Greek, a Greek-fusion restaurant on Murray Street, shared news of the visit on social media.
“It was a pleasure welcoming legendary chef Rick Stein to the restaurant while he was visiting Hobart,” the restaurant said.
“Our kitchen team were absolutely thrilled to cook for him.”

Stein, 78, is an English chef, restaurateur, writer and television presenter who has built a food empire spanning the UK and Australia.
He runs the Stein hotel and restaurant business in the UK and is head chef and co-owner of the Rick Stein at Bannisters restaurants in Mollymook and Port Stephens in New South Wales.

He’s also written numerous cook books and presented a string of cooking shows for the BBC over the years.
Urban Greek said they pride themselves on a menu that blends family recipes passed down through generations with a modern twist.
The restaurant sources local Tasmanian and Greek produce to create its dishes and aims to offer a dining experience that’s “plentiful and full of flavour.”
