Dozens of fallen trees and damaged power lines have come down during an intense windstorm that hit much of Tasmania overnight.
Police are warning drivers and pedestrians to take care on the roads and to watch for hazards, mainly in the Kingborough and Huon Valley areas.
Huon Road at Fern Tree is one of many that has been closed this morning due to a large fallen tree, with City of Hobart crews now working to remove it.
Several schools in southern Tasmania are closed today, including Dodges Ferry Primary, Dover Primary and Cygnet Primary.
Over 7,000 properties remain without power, with 1,083 affected in the Geeveston area and 298 near Triabunna.
TasNetworks is warning of extended wait times for power restoration as crews investigate and secure the causes of the outages.
The Bureau of Meteorology are continuing to issue warnings of potentially locally destructive wind gusts, with speeds of up to 130km/h expected early Wednesday morning in areas including Swansea, New Norfolk, Bothwell, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.
