Rocky Creek in the Huon Valley has been named Tasmania’s best tasting tap water for the second year running.

The water treatment plant took out the 2026 IXOM Best Tasting Tap Water title after water industry professionals blind tasted samples from across the state.

Judges assessed each entry for clarity, colour, aroma and flavour using the industry-recognised Water Tasting Wheel.

Tasmania has a strong track record in the national competition, with the state’s Fern Tree treatment plant in the foothills of kunanyi/Mount Wellington winning both the state and national titles in 2023.

TasWater’s Brendan Windmeyer said the award recognised exceptional sources

That win marked the third time in eight years that Tasmania had claimed the title of best tasting tap water in the country.

TasWater General Manager Operations Brendan Windmeyer said the award recognised Tasmania’s exceptional water sources and the people who deliver high-quality drinking water every day.

The state winner will progress to the national final later in 2026

“Our reputation for producing some of the best tasting drinking water in Australia is something all Tasmanians can be really proud of,” Windmeyer said.

“While our pristine catchments and natural environment provide an incredible starting point, it takes a tremendous amount of expertise, care and attention from our operators to consistently deliver water of this quality to customers.”

“We’d love to see Tasmania bring home another national title in 2026 and, if history is anything to go by, there’s every chance we could once again be competing for international honours.”

The annual competition brings together water industry professionals from across Australia to celebrate operational excellence and showcase the quality of drinking water produced by utilities nationwide.

State winners progress to the national final, with the overall champion earning the chance to represent Australia at the Berkeley Springs International Water Tasting competition in the United States.

TasWater said drinking water is tested more than 250,000 times across the state each year to ensure it remains safe, clean and meets all health-based standards.
