Commuters from Hobart’s eastern shore could soon park at Rokeby and catch a bus into the city under a $10 million Park and Ride plan lodged with the Clarence City Council.
The development, proposed by the Department of State Growth, will include 199 sealed car parks, five accessible spaces, 10 motorcycle bays and secure undercover storage for 37 bicycles.
The site is immediately southeast of the intersection of Rokeby Road, Tollard Drive and Pass Road.
The published plans show new bus stops will be built on Rokeby Road, Pass Road and Commerce Drive.
Buses will not enter the car park, with commuters transferring at the kerbside.

Vehicle access will be via Tollard Drive, with a secondary access through Grange Road West for local traffic and emergency vehicles.
A traffic impact assessment forecasts fewer than 500 vehicle movements per day.
Use will be concentrated around Metro bus timetables, with the morning peak running from 7:30am to 8:30am and the evening peak from 5pm to 6pm.
During the morning peak, Metro runs 10 citybound buses and three southbound services at average six-minute intervals.
The planning report, prepared by consultants Pitt & Sherry, said the facility would intercept commuter traffic before it reached the city.

“The Rokeby Park and Ride facility is a key component of greater Hobart’s integrated transport strategy, purpose-built to support a shift from private vehicle use to more sustainable public and active transport modes,” the report said.
“The Rokeby site is positioned to support the increasing population in the surrounding suburbs, providing a convenient and accessible transfer point for commuters who might otherwise drive into the city.”
Speed humps will be installed inside the car park to deter hooning, mirroring measures used at the nearby Glebe Hill shopping village.
There will be no active CCTV at opening, but conduit and mounting points are being built in so cameras can be added later if needed.

Vandal-resistant materials will be used for shelters, fencing and amenities, the planning documents state.
Representations can be lodged with the Clarence City Council until May 11.
