Hobart-born Princess Mary of Denmark has revealed she was supporting Denmark in their crucial Women’s World Cup match against the Matildas last night.
Princess Mary and Crown Prince Frederik announced on Instagram that they would be cheering for Denmark in a post that featured a picture of Mary and her dog Grace with Denmark flags painted on their faces.
‘We will be cheering from “Top Over” and all the way to “Down Under” when the match against Australia starts shortly at the World Cup in football,’ the post in Danish read.
‘Come on, Denmark. Signed, The Crown Prince Couple.’
Princess Mary’s allegiance has previously been questioned as she did not publicly declare her support for Denmark during the Men’s World Cup.
The royal couple’s decision has sparked debate among followers, with some wondering if Princess Mary secretly hopes for Australia’s success.
The Matildas made it through to the FIFA Women’s World Cup quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Denmark at Stadium Australia in Sydney.
