The Royal Launceston Show, a beloved Tasmanian tradition for 151 years, will not be held in 2024.

The decision comes after the show faced significant financial difficulties in recent years, leaving organisers with no choice but to put it on hold.

A spokesperson for The Royal National and Agricultural Pastoral Society confirmed the suspension, saying it was a tough call.

The board will now focus on a complete overhaul of the show, aiming to create a more relevant and modern event that celebrates the best of Tasmanian agriculture.

“Our Society wishes to thank all those people and entities who have supported the Royal Launceston Show during our tenure at both the Inveresk Precinct and at Quercus Park,” they said.

“We hope that you all continue to be a part of one of northern Tasmania’s most popular events upon its return.”

Community consultation will be undertaken in the coming months to investigate strategies to reestablish and revitalise the show.
