From growing up playing on a paddock near Oatlands, Sam Banks is the latest Tasmanian set to play in the AFL this Thursday night, drafted with pick 29 in 2021.
The former Clarence & Devils player broke the news to his emotional parents on Tuesday morning.

“What are you doing Thursday?”, he asked his mum over the phone.
“Hopefully going to Melbourne”, she asked – to which Sam said “yeah, I’m in”.
Sam is the second Richmond player to come from Whitefoord in Tasmania’s Midlands, after Royce Hart.
