Over 300 Salamanca Market stallholders are collectively owed thousands of dollars after an administrative error saw them wrongly charged stamp duty.
The botch-up has resulted in fees of up to $2,000 each being paid over a period of 15 years since July 1 2008.
Stallholder Association president Emma Hope says the refund amount will vary depending on the value of the site at the time that it was purchased.
She said the error was discovered during negotiations with the Hobart City Council over a new licence agreement for stallholders.
The State Revenue Office has acknowledged the mistake and will investigate stall licence transactions, providing refunds where appropriate.
Stallholders are encouraged to contact the State Revenue Office to see if they are eligible for a refund.
