The Scamander River Golf Club is calling on locals to help track down whoever tore up one of its greens with what is believed to be an e-bike or e-scooter.
Club captain Drew Wilson said the damage to the fourth green was discovered before a pennant match on Sunday morning, after members had played on Saturday afternoon without any issues.
“It looks like either an e-bike or an e-scooter has … just been doing donuts and sort of torn the green up a bit,” he told Pulse.
He said the fourth green sits closest to the tip at the top of a hill on the course.

Wilson said he had heard dirt bikes in the area on Saturday afternoon but ruled them out as the cause.
“If it was a dirt bike, it’d actually just rip the whole thing to shreds,” he said.

The club posted on social media asking anyone living nearby with security cameras to come forward with footage.
It’s not the first time the course has been targeted.
Wilson said greens were damaged two or three months ago, by someone bashing them with a golf club or something similar.
The club had a photo of a suspected culprit but nobody could identify them.

Wilson said the repeated vandalism was demoralising for volunteers who maintain the course.
“It just adds added stress and pain for our greenkeepers and golfers who have to put up with it and try and repair it,” he said.
“We don’t bother anyone. Unfortunately it happens at a lot of golf clubs.”
He said Mowbray Golf Club in Launceston was also frequently hit by vandals, though nearby St Helens hadn’t reported similar problems.

Wilson said most of the latest damage could be repaired, though one section would need more work.
Asked how he felt seeing the damage, Wilson didn’t hold back.
“It’s just unnecessary,” he said.
“Why kids or people think it’s cool to do it, I have no idea.”

The club is urging anyone with information to get in touch.
