‘Secret cameras’ hidden on a popular but currently-closed walking track on kunanyi/Mount Wellington have lead to fines for a number of walkers and runners flouting the rules in recent days.
Rule-breakers ‘caught in HD’ using the Zig Zag Track have picked up on-the-spot fines of $271.50, according to the Wellington Park Trust.
“Images are HD and Hobart is a small place, so if you’re one of the unlucky few, expect a knock at your door or a letter on your floor,” they say.
“The trackies are doing highly skilled work. Conditions are difficult and dangerous.”
The track is currently closed for a $500,000 upgrade project that will see areas affected by erosion fixed, alongside new drainage, steps and rock walls installed to make the track safer.
