Serious crash closes Bass Highway in both directions at Elizabeth Town

Updated 2:30pm, Sunday November 3: A man has died at the scene of a serious long weekend crash on the Bass Highway near Elizabeth Town today.

Emergency services responded to the collision between two trucks near the intersection with Bengeo Road around 7:20am on Sunday.

Acting Inspector Aleena Crack said the driver was found deceased upon arrival.

The driver of the other truck involved was taken to Launceston General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The circumstances leading up to the crash are being investigated by police and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” she said.

“Anyone with information or relevant dashcam footage is asked to contact police on 131 444.”

“Our thoughts are with everyone involved.”

The road remains closed and detours are in place.

Earlier: One person has been “critically injured” and the Bass Highway closed near Elizabeth Town after a serious long weekend crash this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the two-vehicle collision near the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe around 7am on Sunday.

Pulse understands two trucks are involved.

Traffic diversions are in place, with vehicles being diverted at Bengeo Road and Railton Road.

Police say motorists should allow extra time if travelling along the impacted section of the highway.
