Destructive wind gusts reaching 100km/h and potential flash flooding are expected to hit Tasmania tonight as a cold front sweeps across the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has issued a severe weather warning for damaging winds and heavy rainfall that will continue into Sunday morning.
“A broad rain band associated with the front will bring a period of heavy rain to western and central parts of the state, while vigorous winds aloft also bring a risk of damaging wind gusts to elevated areas,” the BOM said.
“The risk of damaging wind gusts is also expected to develop over parts of the east during early Sunday morning.”

Western and central Tasmania will likely experience flash flooding tonight, with conditions improving by mid-Sunday morning.
Meteorologists predict six-hourly rainfall total between 30 to 50mm across affected areas, with isolated regions potentially receiving up to 65mm.

Along the east coast and north-eastern regions, the BOM is expecting damaging winds averaging 60 to 70km/h, with peak gusts potentially reaching 100km/h during the early hours of Sunday.
These warning-level wind conditions are expected to ease by late Sunday morning.
Swansea, Fingal, Queenstown, Strathgordon, Zeehan, Rosebery, Tarraleah, Lake St Clair and Bushy Park may all be impacted.
