A sleeping Tasmanian man in his 60s has been pulled from his smoke-filled house overnight after food that was cooking in the oven caught fire.
Firefighters were called to the Ravenswood home around 7pm on Friday night after receiving information about a possible structure fire.
Crews found a strong smell of smoke on arrival and retrieved the man from inside the property shortly after.
TFS district officer James Newstead said the man was transported to the Launceston General Hospital for observation and called on Tasmanians to check their smoke alarm batteries.
“The start of daylight savings is great time to replace your smoke alarm batteries. Also consider switching to a 10 year lithium battery,” Newstead said.
