Tasmanians are in for a cold and unsettled week as a strong cold front pushes across the state from Wednesday afternoon.
The Bureau of Meteorology says the front will bring showers, snow to low levels, possible hail and fresh gusty winds through to the end of the week.
A high pressure centre currently sitting over eastern Victoria is moving east, making way for a weak trough on Monday and Tuesday before the main front arrives.
Snow is forecast to fall to around 500 metres in the south and west late on Wednesday evening.
By Thursday, the snow level is expected to drop further, falling to around 300 metres in the south-west in the morning.
A strong west to south-westerly wind will follow the front on Thursday, with possible small hail about the west and south and patchy morning frost in the north-east.
Hobart will feel the change on Thursday, with the temperature reaching nine degrees and a very high chance of showers and possible small hail.
Launceston faces its wettest day on Wednesday, with up to 10 millimetres possible, before temperatures drop to two degrees overnight into Thursday.
Conditions are expected to ease slightly on Friday, though showers will linger across much of the state.
