Somerset suburb without power after ute crashes, brings down powerlines

A driver has reportedly escaped from their vehicle with serious but non-life-threatening injuries after bringing down a power pole in Tasmania’s north-west.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash at the intersection of Arthur and Cardigan Streets in Somerset around 12pm on Monday.

62 customers across the nearby area are currently without power due to fallen powerlines, which TasNetworks estimates could take until 8pm to restore.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area until the scene is cleared.

They said one person was taken to hospital.
