The Aurora Australis, also known as the Southern Lights, is a natural phenomenon that occurs when electrically charged particles from the sun collide with the Earth’s atmosphere.

These collisions create beautiful and colorful lights that dance across the sky, creating an unforgettable sight for those lucky enough to witness it.

Pulse follower Makayla Norris took this photo in Southport last night.

While the Aurora Australis is a relatively common occurrence in Tasmania, last night’s display was particularly intense and visible.

Many Tasmanians were caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the lights and quickly grabbed their cameras to capture the stunning display.

As word spread about the Aurora Australis, social media was flooded with photos and videos of the incredible event, with hundreds taking to the Aurora Australis Tasmania Facebook group to share their photos.

For those who missed last night’s display, experts say there is a chance that the Aurora Australis may appear again over the coming days. However, as with all natural phenomena, it’s impossible to predict with certainty when and where it will occur.
