Works on Hobart’s Southern Outlet are causing major headaches for drivers today, with a traffic jam extending from just before the Mount Nelson interchange ‘back to Kingston’.
RoadsTas say the necessary road surface repair works on the main road are causing delays that are “longer than [they] anticipated”.
“We’re now working with our contractors to improve the flow of traffic at this site,” the division of the Department of State Growth said.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”

Motorists heading towards Hobart can expect delays of around 15 minutes, according to Google Maps.
The works are scheduled to wrap up by 3pm on Thursday and continue from 10am on Friday.
“There will be a reduced speed limit and one lane will be closed. One lane will be open at all times,” RoadsTas say.
The works are in preparation for a further resealing job later this year.
UPDATE 4:30PM: RoadsTas have rescheduled Friday’s planned Southern Outlet works to a later date that will “have less impact on road users” after drivers were hit with massive delays on Thursday.
