A high pressure system in the Tasman Sea is now bringing warmer weather. It is expected to stay near Tasmania for several days.

Bureau forecaster David Crock said Hobart, which today reached 23 degrees, was “only going to get warmer over the next few days”.

“[The weather is] a little milder in the north, where there’s a bit more cloud cover and the winds are coming off Bass Strait,” he said.

Launceston is set to climb from 20 degrees on Friday to 25 degrees by Monday.

The north-west coast will stay cooler, at around 17 to 21 degrees.

Frost and fog are likely inland on Friday morning and Tarraleah and Ben Lomond could drop to zero.

Fire danger on the east coast and in the Midlands is forecast to rise from moderate on Thursday to high on Sunday.

Tasmania Fire Service deputy chief officer Matt Lowe warned earlier this week that the cold snap had not eased the risk.

“People may see rain or colder temperatures and assume the fire risk has eased across Tasmania, but that’s not necessarily the case,” he said.
