The board overseeing Tasmania’s Spirit of Tasmania ferry service has been rocked by a wave of resignations in recent weeks, with almost half of its members stepping down.
The latest departure is that of Anna McMahon, who joined the board in 2021.
Her resignation follows the ousting of former chairman Mike Grainger in August and the pending exit of chief executive Bernard Dwyer, who will leave the company later this year.
The shake-up comes amid ongoing issues with the Spirit of Tasmania replacement project, which has already blown out in cost and time.
Opposition leader Dean Winter said Premier Jeremy Rockliff was “caught hiding” the latest TT-Line board departure, after he only confirmed the resignation in state parliament on Tuesday.
“It is like rats from a sinking ship and Jeremy Rockliff is the captain,” Winter said.
“The botched handling of the Spirits project, the biggest infrastructure project in Tasmanian history, is completely unacceptable.”
“It is $500 million over budget and five years delayed so far.”
