Shorts Day, a community event aimed at promoting positive mental health and preventing suicide, is set to be held across Tasmania on Thursday 22 June, encouraging people to wear shorts to work, school, and other activities.

The event is organised by SPEAK UP! Stay ChatTY, the mental health organisation founded by Mitch McPherson.

Last year, the event attracted over 15,000 participants from all corners of the state, and this year, the organisers hope to see even more people joining in.

The theme for this year’s Shorts Day is “Find your way to BRAVE IT this Shorts Day,” which encourages participants to find their own ways to “BRAVE IT” and show their support for mental health.

The organisers emphasize that Shorts Day is for everyone, and even those who don’t feel comfortable wearing shorts can still participate in their own way, such as by texting a friend or contacting a mental health provider for support.

All proceeds raised on the day will go towards the ongoing delivery and expansion of Stay ChatTY programs, presentations, and initiatives.

Fundraising registrations for Shorts Day opened at midday today.
