A strong wind gust temporarily disconnected Hobart’s Brooke Street Pier from the waterfront this morning, reportedly forcing passengers to be ferried back to shore.
The incident occurred while maintenance work was being carried out on the popular tourist structure.
“Scheduled maintenance taking place between sailings got impacted by a gust of wind,” a Mona spokesperson told ABC Radio.
“The team had it resolved within an hour.”
The Brooke Street Pier is home to multiple tourism businesses and serves as the departure point for Mona ferries and other waterfront services.

Hobart experienced severe wind conditions overnight and into the morning, with the Bureau of Meteorology recording gusts of 80km/h at 4am in the city.
The summit of kunanyi/Mount Wellington was hit even harder, with winds reaching 130km/h just after midnight.
By mid-morning when the pier incident occurred, gusts were still registering between 63-72km/h in Hobart.
