A student has been stabbed with a pair of scissors at Ulverstone Secondary College, according to Tasmania Police.
The incident, which took place on Wednesday, has been deemed as a serious matter by the authorities, who are working closely with the school to gather information.
The Department of Education, Children and Young People confirmed to The Advocate that both police and an ambulance had been called to the scene on Wednesday May 10.
“The school immediately activated strategies to ensure students and staff were safe,” a spokesperson said.
“Student safety is the highest priority for the department, with all possible measures taken to provide students with a safe and supportive learning environment.”
The department has also made support services available for anyone affected by the incident.
Concerned families have been urged to contact the school for more information.
The student’s wound was non-life threatening.
