More than 1,300 nbn customers in Hobart’s north are without internet heading into the weekend, with technicians investigating a suspected fibre fault.
An nbn spokesperson said the outage in and around Brighton was predominantly affecting fibre-to-the-node services.
Properties in Old Beach are among those affected by the outage, which began on Friday afternoon.
Pulse understands technicians discovered stolen copper cables and damaged cable conduits upon arriving on site.
“An nbn technician is on site and investigating a suspected fibre fault,” the spokesperson told Pulse.

“About 1,350 customers are affected and we are working to identify the fault as quickly as possible.”
Nbn did not provide an estimated time for services to be restored.
However, some locals on social media said their internet service providers had advised them the outage could last until Sunday.
Residents posting online said their internet had dropped out around midday on Friday.
One woman said she was “very frustrated” after the automated lights throughout her home went offline.
A message from one internet provider, shared in a local Facebook group, indicated services were expected to be restored by 5:01pm on Sunday.
Another resident said being told the outage could last until Sunday was “not really good enough”.
“We are sorry this has occurred immediately before the weekend,” the nbn spokesperson said.
The spokesperson said customers should contact their internet service provider in the first instance for updates on when services would be restored.
