Targeted raid of Sheffield property uncovers illegal firearms and drugs

A targeted raid carried out by a specialist police taskforce has successfully removed several dangerous and illegal firearms from Tasmanian streets.

The Western Drugs and Firearms Unit, supported by Operation Scelus, found the arsenal of weapons during a search of a Sheffield property on Thursday.

Two 303 rifles, a gel blaster Glock handgun and a firearm barrel were all allegedly located at the address, as well as a stolen red Holden SUV.

A significant amount of ammunition and gunpowder were also found stashed at the property, along with quantities of ice and cannabis.

Two people, a 28-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, were arrested and questioned over the seized items.

The pair are now facing a raft of charges including property theft, drug trafficking and firearm offences.

Both will appear in the Launceston Magistrates Court on June 24th.
