UPDATE 5PM:The Tasmanian Government has reversed its earlier decision to illuminate the Tasman Bridge in blue and white tonight.

Following what appears to have been ‘significant backlash’ from the Tasmanian Palestinian community, the Department of State Growth has confirmed to Pulse that the bridge will not be lit up in blue and white tonight.

EARLIER: Hobart’s Tasman Bridge will light up blue and white tonight – representing the colours of the Israel flag.

The move comes as Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff publicly condemns Hamas’ attacks on civilians in Israel.

“The horrific acts of violence committed against innocent civilians are deeply disturbing,” Premier Jeremy Rockliff said.

Rockliff says the developing situation has “shocked the world”.

“On behalf of all Tasmanians, I express my deepest condolences to the loved ones of all civilians who have been killed, injured or displaced by the ongoing violence,” he said.
