The Tasmania Devils now know when they will play their first VFL final, with the league confirming the qualifying final will be held on Saturday August 29.
The Devils, who finished fourth in their debut VFL season, will face Geelong at GMHBA Stadium, with the winner earning a direct path to the preliminary final.
Geelong is chasing its first VFL finals win since the 2013 preliminary final.
The match is one of four finals scheduled for the same day, with the VFL confirming broadcast time slots, club preferences and travel were all factors in setting the fixtures.
Both qualifying final losers will host semi finals the following week, while the winners skip ahead to the preliminary finals a fortnight later.
Tasmania wrapped up the home and away season with a win over GWS and will have had a two-week break before the trip to Geelong.
Devils midfielder Lachy Hay said the squad was not content with a top-four finish alone.
“It’s just a start, to be honest, there’s a long way to go and I don’t feel like we’re done yet,” he said.
Hay said travelling to the mainland held no fears for the group.
“Record’s been pretty good away from home and yeah, I love travelling with the boys,” he said.
“Some games on the mainland sort of feel like home games, to be honest, with the crowd and the support.”
He praised the depth of the squad, with 40 players used across the season.
“Everyone who’s stepped up, like we had two debutants on the weekend and they stepped into it and played really good footy,” he said.
In the other qualifying final, Werribee hosts Box Hill Hawks at Melbourne Avalon Airport Oval on the same day.
The elimination finals see Essendon take on Williamstown at Windy Hill and Port Melbourne face the Sydney Swans at ETU Stadium.
All matches will be broadcast live and free, with the Essendon game on ABC iview nationally and the remaining games on AFL.com.au and the AFL Live Official App.
