The Tasmania Devils have stormed past 200,000 founding members, just months since the team was officially unveiled.
The club reached the milestone of 200,250 members on Tuesday afternoon, with Executive Director Kath McCann saying the team is “not stopping here”.
McCann said most founding members are aged between 30 and 39, while 12% of members don’t already follow an AFL team.
She says it’s clear the Devils are attracting a diverse range of people, both young and old, footy fans and newcomers to the game.
In terms of location, 43% of the team’s Tasmanian members are located in the Hobart urban area, 15% in other areas of southern Tasmania, 21% in northern Tasmania and 21% in the north-west and west coast.
Victoria is the second-biggest founding member base outside of Tasmania.
The new club says they now have members in 55 countries, with the USA being the biggest export country.
Team merchandise has also been in hot demand, with jumpers, beanies and scarves flying off the online shelves.
McCann says 16,500 foundation Devils jumpers were sold in the first round of sales, while another round is currently open.
