The Tasmania Jewels say they have set a new Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) membership record after selling more than 2,200 foundation memberships on the first day of sales.
At one point, a membership was being sold every 10 seconds.
The Jewels, who will play their first WNBL season later this year, launched their memberships on Tuesday.
Packages cover all 11 home games, with split options available for matches at Launceston’s Silverdome and Hobart’s MyState Bank Arena.
Jewels coach Claudia Brassard said the response had been overwhelming.

“Talk about shooting the lights out. Tassie fans are unreal,” Brassard said.
“Thank you, Tasmania. We’re so grateful for every single foundation member.”
“We can’t wait to repay your faith in us with lots of grit, grind and success on court.”
Diamond memberships at MyState Bank Arena are nearing capacity, while about 100 diamond spots remain at the Silverdome.
Corporate boxes and courtside seats are still available at both venues.

Individual memberships start at $20 per game, while family memberships cost $58 per game for two adults and two or three children.
Jewels player Steph Reid said the prospect of big home crowds “sends goosebumps” down her spine.
“Having fans there, loud and cheering … making noise and to see all those jerseys in the crowd, I just think it’s going to be an incredible advantage for us,” Reid said.
WNBA player and Jewels ambassador Alanna Smith urged fans to get behind the team.

“It’s your opportunity to be a part of a brand new team and a part of the women’s sports movement,” Smith said.
Foundation members will receive an exclusive merchandise pack and have their names displayed on a foundation honour board at the club’s training centre.
