Tasmania Police car crashes into guardrail on West Tamar Highway

A Tasmania Police vehicle has been damaged after crashing into a guardrail on the West Tamar Highway at Trevallyn overnight.

The crash happened around 7pm on Sunday outside Tamar Marine in Launceston.

It closed both city-bound lanes for almost two hours.

A marked RAV4 came to rest across both lanes, with significant front-end damage to the vehicle and a buckled Armco rail left behind.

The road was visibly wet in photos from the scene. No injuries were reported.

City-bound traffic was diverted via Forest Road and Gorge Road while officers worked to clear the scene.

“Motorists are advised to seek an alternative route until the scene is cleared,” police said prior to the road reopening at 8:55pm.

The cause of the crash has not been released.
