A Tasmania Police officer has been “placed on non-operational duties” after an alleged assault in Burnie earlier this year.
The 31-year-old male constable will face a charge of common assault following the alleged January 29 incident.

A Police spokesperson said the Western District constable was on duty at the time of the incident, but would not go into specifics surrounding the circumstances of the charge.
“It is not appropriate to make any further comment given the matter is now before the court,” the spokesperson said.
The man will appear in the Hobart Magistrates Court on 27 October and if found guilty, could face fines or a maximum penalty of a year in prison.
