A senior female Tasmania Police officer is currently under investigation for allegedly harassing colleagues during an end-of-year work function.
The alleged incident reportedly took place at a bar on Hobart’s waterfront last month.
Tasmania Police confirmed that an internal professional standards investigation is underway and said that the officer in question has been on leave since the incident occurred.
In a statement to the ABC, a Tasmania Police spokesperson said the organisation “does not tolerate any form of harassment and is committed to ensuring its members treat one another with respect and dignity at all times.”
“The wellbeing of our officers is of paramount importance and wellbeing support has been offered to all affected parties,” they said.
Tasmania Police is currently undergoing an independent review into how it handles complaints involving officers after the recent commission of inquiry raised concerns about the way it dealt with allegations related to child sexual abuse.
Commissioner Donna Adams said in October that she will take “necessary action” in response to the findings of the review, which wound up its submissions on December 31, 2023.
“I want the community to have confidence in our police service and that is why I believe this review is an important step forward in rebuilding trust,” she said.
“This is just one of many steps we have and will continue to take to ensure that victim-survivors reporting sexual crimes continue to be treated with dignity and their reports are appropriately investigated and managed.”
