The Tassie footy community is gearing up for a massive triple-header at North Hobart oval this Saturday, where Tasmania will take on Queensland.
Supporters of the newly announced Hobart stadium and Tasmanian AFL team are preparing to show their support for our state at the game.
Tasmanian AFL legend Nick Probert says the opportunity for players to throw on the map and play for Tassie is “incredibly special”.
“There’s the history and tradition of all of the teams that have represented the state that you represent when you play, so it’s an incredibly emotional time to pull on the map for Tasmania,” Probert said.
Participants of the ‘Yes AFL team, Yes Stadium’ Facebook group, which has over 18,300 members, are hoping to turn out in their thousands to cheer on our young players while proudly wearing their Tassie ‘Yes AFL’ merch.
Meanwhile, supporters of the group opposed to the stadium are reportedly planning to ‘make their stance known’ at Saturday’s game, encouraging their 3,700 Facebook group members to show up.
While speaking to media at North Hobart oval on Monday morning, Nick Probert encouraged both sides of the debate to maintain a respectful interaction.
“I think it’s fantastic that the people who are not for a stadium are coming along this weekend and are able to express their views. It’s not my view and it’s not what I would like to see for Tasmania, but I think it’s important that we support all views.”

11:55am – Tasmania v Queensland (Women’s State Game)
2:15pm – Tasmania v Queensland (Men’s State Game)
Entry for under-16’s is free, while adult tickets are available online and on game day for $15.
