Tasmania will be contributing $110,000 to humanitarian efforts in Turkiye and Syria, Premier Jeremy Rockliff has announced today.

The magnitude-7.8 quake, which struck the southern Turkish province of Kahramanmaras on Monday, has left many buildings badly damaged and over 20,000 dead.

In a tweet, Premier Rockliff said the support will be directed to relief efforts on the ground, “where it’s needed most.”

“To everyone affected by this horrific tragedy, my thoughts, and the thoughts of all Tasmanians are very much with you.”

Earlier this week Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews announced his state would contribute $1 million to immediate humanitarian aid, while NSW has earmarked $1 million to UNICEF.

The Australian Government will give $10 million in humanitarian assistance, with New Zealand to also provide $1.5m.
